Evelyn Brett is the Director and owner of the Bloor West Physiotherapy Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, and, High Park Physiotherapy, Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics Centre.
Evelyn graduated in physiotherapy from University College Dublin, Ireland, and gained experience working in Ireland, London England, and in Switzerland prior to immigrating to Canada. Further experience was gained working at the University of Toronto Rheumatic Diseases Health Unit.
Evelyn’s enthusiasm, energy, and love of the profession led to her appointment as Head Physiotherapist at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto, one of the youngest Physiotherapists ever appointed to this position. Working with the Orthopaedic Surgeons at St. Joseph’s Hospital fracture clinics, Evelyn ventured into private practice opening High Park Physiotherapy, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, one of the first OHIP funded centers in the province of Ontario, treating mainly orthopaedic and sports related injuries. Bloor West Physiotherapy, Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centre was later established as a full multi-disciplinary rehabilitation centre.
These physiotherapy clinics have grown over the years from a sole practitioner practice to a diversified staff of 40 multi-disciplinary, multi-lingual rehabilitation personnel.
Most recently, Ms Brett was honoured to be selected as one of 25 Canadian Physiotherapists to participate in a Canadian delegation to post war Rwanda. Her vast knowledge and experience in orthopaedic injuries and in the delivery of high quality health care made her a valuable asset to the team.
Evelyn has been on numerous committees and has served on several community programs including: • A Trustee on the Humber Memorial Hospital Board of Directors • Served on the Board of Directors of the Schedule 5 Physiotherapy Association • Was on the fee negotiating committee with the Ontario Ministry of Health and W.S.I.B. • Instructor for in-service training, biomechanics and lifting techniques to several corporations • Clinical instructor to Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy assistant students for various colleges
Evelyn has worked as a co-operative student clinical instructor with the Universities of Waterloo, Guelph and Windsor, as well as various colleges.
Her exceptional clinical skills led to her position with the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators as an examiner of graduating physiotherapy students from the Physiotherapy National Exam (PNE). Evelyn also lends her expertise to the corporate world as a consultant. She teaches businesses how to improve their practices to ensure worker safety. She is also frequently consulted as a medical-legal expert. Because of her vast experience, she knows the intricacies and complexities of working with insurance companies and lawyers on patient files.
JULIA WARRENP.T., M.C.S.P., M.C.P.A.

Julia Warren, Chartered Registered Physiotherapist, brings a vast wealth of knowledge and experience as a senior Physiotherapist to our team at Bloor West Physiotherapy. She successfully graduated from St Thomas’s Hospital in London England, with extensive training in Cyriax and Maitland Manual Therapy and Massage Therapy. She also gained her clinical experience as a staff Physiotherapist in London at St. Thomas’s Hospital, and University College Hospital, where she primarily treated Orthopaedic patients. Upon arriving in Canada, and with a special interest in treating upper extremity injuries, Julia has applied her skills in our private practice setting for the past 20 years, mainly in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, using manual techniques. During that period Julia has developed a deep relationship with many of our returning patients who benefit tremendously from her historical knowledge and treatment of their previous injuries and conditions. Further enhancing her patient’s background knowledge, Julia also enjoys long standing relationships with many of our referring Physicians which further contributes to our quality and continuity of patient care. In addition to constantly upgrading her training through physiotherapy courses, and to augment her clinical experience, Julia has also completed the Level 1 acupuncture with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada. She is also certified to dispense orthotics and trained to professionally prescribe, measure and fit custom orthopaedic braces. Having a special interest in upper extremity trauma and rehabilitation, Julia has recently completed the D.A.S.H. program with the College of Physiotherapy on shoulder Rehabilitation outcome measures.
JAKE HEADP.T., M.Sc. (PT), M.C.P.A.
Bloor West Physiotherapy. Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is pleased to introduce the newest member of our Musculoskeletal rehab team, Jake Head. Following the completion of his degree in Kinesiology fromThe University of Western Ontario, Jake pursued his Masters of Physiotherapy Studies in the athletic hotbed of Australia, at The University of Queensland. With an international reputation for clinical research, the University's Physiotherapy division is recognized as a national and international leader in physiotherapy research. The Universtiy of Queensland’s active and collaborative research teams specialize in areas of, Musculoskeletal Pain and Injury, Neck Pain and Whiplash, Pain Management, and Joint Stability. Our patients benefit tremendously from Jake's exposure to these specialized areas of Physiotherapy research and his continued clinical interest and pursuit of these sub specialties. Jake's main area of concentration will continue in this direction as it relates to the injured athlete. He has developed a keen interest and specialty in Orthopaedic Bracing as indicated for the injured and surgically repaired knee. Jake's clinical training has been centered on a multi disciplinary musculoskeletal rehabilitation team, which fits with our clinic's underlying treatment philosophy and approach.
COLIN BELLP.T., M.C.P.A., BAdmin (Health)
Colin has successfully practiced Physiotherapy for 35 years in a number of clinical and administrative positions. Upon graduation from Nottingham school of Physiotherapy in England, Colin specialized in Orthopaedic and Neurological conditions and enhanced his clinical skills by completing courses in manual therapy, acupressure and therapeutic touch. In addition to his clinical qualifications and training, Colin successfully completed a degree in Health Administration and for many years managed the Ontario WSIB physiotherapy program which primarily dealt with the treatment and return to work of injured workers. Following this, Colin was secretary treasurer of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and also served as a director on the board of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. His vast knowledge and experience underscore his love of teaching. Colins keen interest and experience as an educator makes him a popular team member for both Physiotherapists and patients alike.
KEITH CAMACHORAc, RTCMP, RMT
Acupuncturist, Registered Massage Therapist
As a Registered Massage Therapist with a specialty in Shiatsu Massage, Keith joins Bloor West Physiotherapy, Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics with over 20 years experience in private practice, treating musco skeletal conditions. Additionally, Keith is trained and qualified as a Registered Acupuncturist and a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner, obtaining this dual certification in 2003 from The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturists of British Colombia. Through his involvement in comprehensive clinical settings, Keith integrates his skills in Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Massage Therapy, to meet our patient’s diverse needs, and achieve the best possible outcomes. Keith’s experience and multidisciplinary approach within a Physiotherapy environment, makes him a perfect fit for our treatment philosophy, and enables him to meet the wide diversity of needs presented by our patients.
PATRICIA HEYWOOD JONESP.T., M.C.P.A.
Upon qualifying as a Physiotherapist in 1977 from the National University of Ireland (NUI), Dublin Ireland, Ms. Heywood Jones began her clinical career at The Toronto General Hospital (TGH) as a Staff Physiotherapist. Her early clinical interests dealt primarily with the assessment and treatment of Orthopaedic injuries. In addition to TGH, Ms Heywood Jones has acquired extensive in-patient and out-patient experience in a clinical setting as a Staff Physiotherapist at Lionsgate Hospital, Vancouver BC, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Toronto, and Mississauga Hospital. Following her tenure in Hospital based environments, Ms Heywood Jones moved her scope of practice to the private clinical setting where she undertook a subspecialty in the assessment and treatment of Brain Injuries. From 1988 to 2001 she was an active Staff Physiotherapist for CCAC Etobicoke/Metro Home Care, and an integral part of their Acquired Brain Injury Team. Her vast clinical experience, in addition to her continued training and qualifications in Pain Management, and as a certified Assistive Devices Authorizer, enables Ms. Heywood Jones to provide our patients with the highest level of compassion and quality of care. Ms. Heywood Jones’ combined experience, knowledge, and qualifications in Orthopaedics, Acquired Brain Injuries, Pain Management, and Elderly Care, make her a leader in the field. Ms. Heywood Jones maintains Professional affiliations with, and is an active member of, The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, The Canadian Physiotherapy Association, Assisted Devices Program, Ontario – Authorizer, and The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, England.
RAFFI KOUNDAKJIANB.Sc. (Hons)., PT., M.C.P.A., CAFCI
Raffi is a Registered Physiotherapist who completed his Honours Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with distinction in 1997 from the University of Toronto, followed by his B.Sc. in Physiotherapy from the University of Western Ontario.
Raffi has practiced exclusively in private practice for the past 9 years. In addition to being a Registered Physiotherapist, Raffi is also a certified Acupuncturist having completed all the available courses with the Acupunture Foundation of Canada (ACFI). He has just returned from studying in China, where he received advanced acupuncture training. Raffi has a special interest in the use of acupuncture in conjunction with manual therapy in the treatment of sports and work related injuries. Additionally, Raffi has taken extensive post-graduate courses including certification of Levels 1 and 2 of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Manual Therapy program. He has also completed the Mckenzie levels A and B program.
RAYMOND ZABIELIAUSKASM.D., C.M., FRCP(C)
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Dr. Zabieliauskas is a consulting staff member to Bloor West Physiotherapy, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre. He is a duly qualified medical practitioner licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario. After completion of his M.D. at McGill University, he went on to specialize at The University of Toronto and in his final year of specialist training/residency (1988) he was honoured as the Chief Resident of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, at the Toronto Western Hospital (TWH), Mount Sinai Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and the Toronto General Hospital (TGH). He holds a specialist qualification awarded by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Zabieliauskas’s experience includes being a lecturer in the Department of Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, at the University of Toronto. He is an active medical staff member of the Toronto General Hospital, St Joseph’s Health Centre, as well as an attending and consulting staff member to the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.
DR. LEO KARABELLASHons.BSc., D.C.
Dr Leo Karabellas successfully graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2005 following a four year intensive training program where focus was placed on the cause, management, and prevention of pain, injury and dysfunction of the musceloskeletal system. Prior to pursuing a career as a Chiropractor, Dr. Karabellas graduated from The University of Toronto receiving an Honours Bachelors of Science degree with distinction in Human Biology. He was then invited to be a lifetime member of the Golden Key International Honour Society in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement. Dr Karabellas incorporates his extensive training and clinical background to bring our patients a diverse range of chiropractic, manual therapy, rehabilitation, and exercise counselling. In accordance with our clinic's underlying treatment philosophy Dr Karabellas integrates not only treatmnet, but education and instruction on proper biomechanics and how to avoid activity and movement which causes pain and injury. Additionally, he has extensive knowledge in Active Release Technique - ART, and the assessment diagnosis and rehabilitation of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. Dr Karabellas is an active member of The Canadian Chiropractic Association, The Ontario Chiropractic Association, The College of Chiropratcors of Ontario, and The Canadian Chiropractic Protective Association. Dr Karabellas' other interests and involvements includes being a health promoter for The Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, as well as playing soccer and maintaining an active fitness lifestyle.
Registered Massage Therapist
Prior to his arrival in Canada, Yan practiced as a Massage Therapist for 8 years in his native Russia, at The National Hospital of Kyrgyz, where he specialized in both Massage and Hydrotherapy Techniques of Orthopaedic injuries. To further enhance his exceptional clinical and diagnostic skills, Yan continued his training in Canada, receiving his Diploma in Massage Therapy from ICT Kikkawa College in 2007, with a special interest and qualifications in Myofacial Assessment of Postural Dysfunction, Sport Massage, and Active Release Technique (ART).
TAM VUB.Sc, P.T., M.C.P.A.
Prior to qualifying as a Registered Physiotherapist, Ms. Vu completed 5 years of Medical Training at the School of Medicine, South Vietnam. Tam then attended McGill University, Department of Physiotherapy, graduating with honours in 1992. Throughout her carreer Tam has trained and practiced in Hospital settings (St Mary's Hosptial - Montreal, Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital - Montreal, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital - Montreal) and private practice settings, treating and following patients on both an in-patient and out-patient basis. She is a Registered Physiotherapist with The College of Physiotherapy of Ontario, and the Corporation Professionnelle des Physiotherapeutes du Quebec (CPPQ), and a member of Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
JOHN HARATSISM.C.S.P., P.T.
John completed his Physiotherapy certification in 1988 and is a registered member of The College of Physiotherapy of Ontario. Throughout his career John has practiced extensively in both hospital and private clinical settings. While concentrating on musculoskeletal conditions, John has established a sub-specialty in Comprehensive Rehabilitation Assessments. This expertise allows him to provide independent physical, functional and in-home assessments for MVA’s, W.S.I.B., and Long Term Disability. As well, he has provided on–site assessments and treatments to seniors in Long Term Care settings, and Retirement Homes. John is also qualified as a Registered ADP (Assisted Devices Program) Authorizer. Additionally, John is certified in SEMG (Surface Electromyography), an examination of the health of muscles, and the nerves that control them, and its applications in assessment and treatment of muscular dysfunctions. To complement his clinical skills and qualifications, John is a Certified KEY Functional Abilities Assessment Specialist, and is also trained in ARCON Functional Abilities Assessments, EV V1 Manual Therapy, and E2E3 Manual Therapy.
Registered Massage Therapist
Florentin joins our team at Bloor West Physiotherapy, Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine with exceptional credentials enhanced by his clinical experience. Florentin began his career in 1997 following six years of intensive training at The University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Faculty of Medicine) of Timsoara, Romania. Following an additional two years of internship training in Family Medicine, Florentin then practiced as a Family Physician until being selected by Novartis Pharma Services Inc as a Hospital Specialist responsible for the oversight of Clinical Trials being conducted within the hospital setting. He further coordinated the clinical evaluation and application of the efficacy results on an evidence based, peer reviewed basis. Upon his arrival in Canada in 2005, Florentin practiced as a Physicians Assistant for three years prior to successfully completing his certification as a Registered Massage Therapist. His experience working in a multidisciplinary environment enables Florentin to enhance our patients’ quality of care as he subscribes to our philosophy of a collaborative rehabilitation approach to achieve restored health. Florentin has a special interest and advanced training and qualifications in the following areas: Neuromuscular Integration and Structural Alignment (NISA), Lymphatic Drainage (LD), Chronic Pelvic Pain, and treatment for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
MARY WILSONP.T., O.T.
Registered Physiotherapist, Registered Occupational Therapist
Mary Wilson comes to Bloor West Therapy Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Centre after a long and distinguished career in rehabilitative medicine. Upon successfully graduating from the University of Toronto with a degree in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Mary began her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto where she was a staff Physiotherapist for 6 years. Following this, Mary was appointed as Head Therapist of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Department at Toronto’s Mt. Sinai Hospital. After more than 10 years of clinical experience within the hospital setting, Mary then applied her vast experience and clinical accomplishments in our private practice setting where she still practices. Mary has a special area of interest in geriatric care and she is currently head of Physiotherapy for our Long Term Care Division.
